Toronto Stutterers Social

25 March, 2009

Hi everyone,

It’s been a long time! My apologies.

I was just in the middle of scheduling the next Stutter Night when I was alerted to another stutterers meet up group in Toronto! And it’s about to have it’s 1st meet up on Wednesday, April 8th. Click here for all the details and I hope to see you there :)

Stutter Night in February or March

14 January, 2009

Happy (belated) New Year!

I hope you had a great holiday and going back to work wasn’t too hard :)

Just a quick e-mail to let you know that Stutter Night will be postponed until February or March. That is, when the weather is less unpredictable. The last thing I want to happen is someone being stuck in a snowstorm without finding out that the night got cancelled. Call me paranoid but I just don’t want that to happen.

So until then, please tell me where you’d recommend for the next Stutter Night. I’m thinking of a pub this time around. Any suggestions? A place not too quiet, not too loud and close to public transportation.

May 2009 have no awkward stuttering moments :)

Stutter Night 4 cancelled

17 December, 2008

Stutter Night 4 has been cancleled due to a snowstorm coming on the night. I don’t mean to jump the gun or be an unpatriotic Canadian afraid of the snow, I just don’t want to have anyone caught in a snowstorm.

Stutter Night 4 will be rescheduled in the New Year. Watch this space.

If you’re home Friday night, and on front of a computer, why not check out a stuttering talk show by buddy of mine? Show starts at 8pm and *should* go for an hour. I say ’should’ because he’s been having tech troubles. He also runs a chatroom here.

Improv night!

10 December, 2008

Friday, December 19th is the date of the next Stutter Night. And it happens in 2 parts.

First, dinner at Kalyvia at 420 Danforth Ave (at Chester subway station) at 6pm. Then a night of improv comedy over at… of all places… Timothy’s World Coffee a few steps up at 320 Danforth Ave from 9 to 10. We’ll probably head over to Timothy’s around 8.

If you’d like to join us, please let me know by Thursday, December 18th. Timothy’s is first come first served so I can’t make reservations, but it’s good to know numbers anyway :)

Let me know by filling out this cotact form or emailing me at coolstutter@gmail.com.

Stutter Night 3

11 November, 2008

The next Stutter Night will take place on Friday, November 21st at what I think I can now call the “usual spot”, Jack Astors on John St (133 John Street in downtown Toronto (corner of King St. and John St.). Time: 6:00 p.m.

Reservations will be under Dan (that’s me!). Please let me know by the night of Thursday, November 20th if you will be attending— fill out the contact form. As always, you can bring friends. Just let me know numbers, ok? :)

Where would you like to go?

One reason why I keep choosing the same place is because I don’t know where else to go! :) Let me know (again, using the contact form) what and where you’d recommend. It can be anywhere in the city as long as it’s easy to get to by ttc (subway preferred), not too loud of a place and affordable :)

New reply address

If you’re reading this in e-mail form, you might have noticed that I’m using a different reply address. If you’re interested in technical details, then it’s because it creates a better user experience. Plus, the new address looks less like a piece of spam. A concern I have is my e-mails ending up unread in spam boxes.

Stutter Night 2 review

25 October, 2008

Hey that title rhymes!

Just a quick note on Stutter Night 2: it was a lot of fun like Stutter Night 1! We were a small group and the conversation was great! Of course, we talked about stuttering and each other’s experiences however, stuttering isn’t everything so we also talked about tv shows (Heroes and Lost) and my personal favourite, cartoons! :) Got a lot of cool recommendations on what to watch.

What a great feeling it was to openly stutter and not have to bother with scanning ahead, swapping words, secondaries, etc. I’m already looking forward to the next Stutter Night. Stay tooned!

Stuttter Night this Friday, Oct 24

19 October, 2008

Stutter Night will occur this Friday, October 24th at 6:30 p.m. at Jack Astor’s on 133 John Street in downtown Toronto (corner of King St. and John St.). My apologies for the short, short notice, I don’t plan on aelrting this close to the date. Just life got in the way (I hate it when that happens).

Reservations will be under Dan (my name!). Please let me know by Thursday night if you will be attending. Let me know by filling out the contact form (click here). As always, you can bring along friends. Just let me know numbers, ok? :)

Thought provoking conversation for 1st Stutter Night

27 September, 2008

Stutter Night 1 was a success if I do say so myself :) We were 3 guys and I think it’s a great number to start with. I’m new at creating events so I wanted to keep it low-key.

Toronto bars and restaurants (and some donut shops) play the music way too loud it’s ridiculous. I suppose their excuse is the louder the music, the more people drink.

Anyway, we met at a sports bar to grab a bite to eat so the music wasn’t too loud. All that matters is we were able to have a conversation.
